My Practise | Painting

Like I mentioned in my previous post, painting will always be a part of my practise no matter how far I stray. Instead of worrying what to paint, I got very expressionistic. I was heavily inspired by Jackson Pollock and his "action" painting. Although I have done loose paintings and considered them Impressionistic. It was time to get expressionistic.

I laid the boards on the ground and went to town! The first one I did I diluted the paints so they would flow very easily. I used a large paintbrush and wooden spoons, the whole works and threw paint across the board, walking around getting it across in different motions and when the paint was still wet I would lift and tilt the board to manipulate the flow of the pigment. I did this over and over again, building up the layers.

The second painting I used a sponge, soaked it in the diluted paint and squeezed over the board, it created a nice splattering effect, and then soaked into the board which I really liked , so like before I built up layers, introduced salt and sugar into the mix to add some texture and soak pieces into it. I squeezed paint straight from the tube, I had fun with it really.

I believe I see these paintings successful as I was more passionate about creating them and enjoyed . doing so. As mentioned before I am looking to do some pieces with different sounds to see how the paintings are then perceived. I think these kind of paintings would be perfect test subjects! Over the holidays I will get creating some sound clips so when I am back in a few weeks time, I will jump straight back into my work!
