Tricia's Masterclass | Storytelling with Objects | Week 4

Tuesday 16th of October

I was very unsure what to expect from this masterclass. We were given random objects, provided by Tricia. My item in particular was an old handbell. I partnered up with this project with my friend Daniel. He was given a metronome. So we had these two obscure objects but they were both connected with their sound. We did a brief research off their histories and could not find anything useful that would help our story line. Carlos and Tricia took us into the studio and gave us a really good introduction to the studio. I use to do a lot of work in the studio in the college and it was nice to revisit this era in the art world. So me and Daniel helped each other out and recorded footage of our items both separate and together. Once happy with our footage we made our way back to the media and photography room and worked on the computer using premier pro. Again Carlos gave us a demonstration on how to use this software. I was very appreciative of this as I love using cameras for photos, films or otherwise. However, I am not so good at computers. This became evident when it came to using Premier Pro. I did do better than I thought using the software and was happy with the progress I had made in that short session. In me and Daniels video we got the opportunity to use the green screen and replace it with footage such as fireworks. We considered different story lines nothing appealed to us so we went with something that was aesthetically please and we tried out a few different ideas but the fireworks worked best.
This masterclass has helped me gain a new appreciation for the ready made art. When thinking of ready made art I was never impressed or in all honesty understood it. This workshop made me consider the history of an object and what it is trying to say when used as a piece of work.
In the future I would like to maybe work with some ready made objects and re purpose them. Give them new meanings and/or uses. I definitely find that very interesting.
