Cross Critique

Cross Critique

The cross critique was quite an enjoyable experience and an amazing opportunity to see other people’s practise. It was a bit nerve wrecking though. Adams tutorial group from 1styear met with his 2ndyears. It was awkward engaging in conversations at the start but as time went on I wish I could say it got easier. However, by the time the critique rolled around and I had my art work on the walls, I found it easier to engage with the others and speak to them about my practise.
I decided to show these three pieces of work as it was a new approach to painting that I was taking and I thought it was the perfect time to get the feedback I needed in order to continue this practise. Many questions were asked by both students and Adam, I think I handled that quite well but hopefully I will get better as time goes on with plenty of practise! I am grateful for the questions that were being asked as it made me self-aware of my actions and my own work and it helped me a lot; it still is!
One of the comments/ questions made was about if I was letting the audience take too much control over my practise. Even though it was a good question I could easily say no. My practise is changing and turning into something that will cause the reactions. I am the artist I can use my skills with the right colour palette to manipulate what someone may or may not see in my work.
After this cross year crit, I am definitely more self aware of the actions I take and have definitely gained more confidence in this new step I have chosen to take.
