David Armes

Image
25th of October   David Armes is an artist who involves himself with letterpress printing, language and geography. His work overlaps with the rules of letterpress and with the influence from the worlds of arts and crafts. When looking at Armes' work its quite apparent he focuses on placement and interference.  A major influence to David Armes was the "Kill Everyone Now" magazines.  I have to say, personally I am not into Armes' work. However, I do find it very clever how he presents his pieces. I respect how he has carried his passion across these many years and has made it very clear where he started in the art world and what has inspired him.  David shows a clear path of progression. I personally believe it is incredible with what he has managed to do over the years and I particularly liked his work he has done on music sleeves. The CD sleeves are very clean cut and offer a creative a...

Danielle Freakley

Image
18th of October Danielle Freakly is an Australian born artist. Her practise involves performance, sculpture, sound and text. However; she is very open to this and doesn't confine herself to certain materials. I found Danielles work quite peculiar as it reaches out to daily social communication and relationships. Currently Danielle Freakley is working on a project she started in mid august called "Tell me what to Say". This project gets the audience to accidentally perform with her as it is in fact directed by what they want her to say.  Although this may come across as a pointless performance I found it very interesting. Danielle was restricted, she couldn't open up and tell us about herself, when told what to say she manipulated in how she said something or with a vivid expression which made it clear her thoughts on that particular subject or statement.  In my theoretical opinion "Tell me w...

Maria Kulikovska

Image
11th of October 2017 Maria Kulikovska is an artist from Ukraine, who uses her body to create amazing three dimensional sculptures. When Kulikovska did her presentation on Wednesday I found it to be very emotional. There was this woman standing infront of a number of students telling us she doesn't belong anywhere in this world. What she considered home was no longer anything but a political statement.  Displaced from her own country and Europe. Her art project "Raft CrimeA" was a representation of her not belonging on any sort of land and it was indeed a very daunting but adventurous experience for Maria.  There were many crazy and absurd stories Maria Kulikovska had to offer and I was intrigued by every single one. I personally believe all of her work she has done to date has said something about her as a person and her bravery.  There is an unsaid fire with in her that drives this motivation out of her and in resu...

Francis Disley

Image
October 4th 2017 Frances Disley is a Liverpool based artist. One of her most recent projects was "Abacus" Bluecoat, Liverpool, (2017). Francis attended John Moores on the 4th of October to present to us her work and the thoughts behind it. What I gathered from her lecture was that she exposes the reality, the chaotic mess with in a creators brain, showing the battling and wrestling of fixating on a final decision. To me her work embraces the frustration of not being able to focus on one thing. She depicts the trouble of being an artist and the silly romantic notion of playing with materials to create her own inspiration. Being inspired to me personally I feel is something you have to do on your own, certainly you can be helped but what inspires you and what you want to create can only be decided by you.   Ironically, even sitting in the fourth or fifth row of the Lecture Hall it was clear to me and I am sure to...
